Nature's Bounty: Healing Herbs
About
Herbs The word Herb has
many definitions. Here are two definitions,
from Dictionary.com.
- A plant whose stem does not produce woody, persistent tissue
and generally dies back at the end of each growing season.
- Any of various often aromatic plants used especially in
medicine or as seasoning
The first defines a specific group of plants, and reflects what
most of us have in mind when talking about herbs. The second
defines herbs according to usage, and is how we define herbs here at
Green Fire Herbs. In addition to sage, basil, ginseng,
feverfew, and meadowsweet, we use berries, fruits, spices, and even
cornmeal (in our soaps).
Herbs and spices have been in use to heal
wounds, cure illnesses, improve resistance to disease, grow hair,
lose weight, improve our mood, help us sleep better and who knows
what else for thousands of years. Many of today's
medicines are derived from herbs.
Our website dedicated to
the understanding and use of herbs in our daily lives. We
offer organic herbs, herbal teas, hand made herbal soap, and
bath and body products, and will soon be releasing a line of natural
cleaners and laundry soap. Please browse through our
site! If there is something you're looking for, or if you saw
something at one of our shows that you don't see here, please

About Green Fire
Herbs We are one of a growing number of companies who
seek to run successful, but ethical and socially responsible
businesses.
NONE of our products are
animal tested!
Where we have a choice
between ingredients provided by large companies who pay their
workers next to nothing, and those provided by workers who earn a
fair wage for their efforts, we buy the
Fair Trade
ingredients.
We avoid the use of
ingredients which are produced in ways that damage the
environment. For example we only use sustainably grown
unrefined African Red Palm Oil in our soaps. Palm oil is a
common oil in hand made soaps. It adds little in the way of
skin care, but does produce a harder bar of soap. Unrefined
African Red Palm Oil is rich in beta carotene and other nutrients
that are good for your skin. It also adds a rather nice,
natural red to orange color to soap.
Most Palm Oil is produced
by large corporations that destroy forest land in order to plant
their
plantations.
Once the forest itself is gone, the way these plantations are worked
continues to harm the surrounding land (and people).
We prefer to ship orders
using paper (preferably recycled), however some of our supplies are
shipped to us packed with bubble wrap and/or peanuts. We reuse
such packing in an effort to keep then out of land fills for just a
little longer (and encourage our customers to do the same).
Also, the more often these packing materials are reused, the less
market there will be for more to be produced. For more
information about reusing items, keeping them out of our
landfills, look into
Freecycle.org.
These are but examples of
our philosophy of doing business. For more information on how
to support ethical and socially responsible businesses, check out
Co-Op
America .
