Herbal Teas
There are two
components to any good herb tea - the healing herbs and the
flavoring. In many cases, the flavoring comes from herbs,
spices, berries and/or fruit, all of which can have healing
properties. So that cup of tea you're drinking to combat
night blindness can be quietly soothing your nerves, easing muscle
tension, or providing important nutrients. Flavoring is
important!
I'm sure if I asked
everyone who came to this page to list their favorite foods, and
enough people did so, nearly everyone would find something on the
list they just can't stand. That's one problem with
formulas designed to taste good. They can't taste good to
everyone. The other is that the flavorings used can themselves
be selected to either enhance the effects of the primary healing
herbs, or to target another issue. Remember that tea to combat
night blindness? If you're also congested, flavor with
peppermint.
At Green Fire Herbs, all teas are hand blended for you
when ordered. This allows us to be very flexible in the choice
of flavorings we provide. Realizing you may not be familiar
with the flavors of many of the herbs used, we provide
two aids to help you decide how you want your tea to taste. Most
of our blends will soon be available in a "Beginner Set". The
"Beginner Set" contains 20 teabags: one teabag in each of
15 flavors, and five teabags with no flavorings added. These last five are
so you can see how the tea blend itself
tastes, and so that you can experiment with flavorings
at home. Some suggestions are fresh, in season berries (or
frozen berries allowed to thaw before being added to the tea),
fruit juices, milk, etc.
We also have a "Flavor
Set", and a "Mini Flavor Set". The "Flavor Set"
contains 15 teabags, one for each of our flavor herbs/spices.
The "Mini Flavor Set" contains 10 teabags, omitting those flavors
that are likely to be found in your spice cabinet.
All our tea
blends are packaged as loose tea. You can purchase the tea
with your choice of flavorings, or without. If you purchase the tea
without flavorings, you can keep some of our flavoring
herbs and spices on hand and blend them with your tea when
brewing (or use spices from your spice rack), using exactly the amount of
flavoring you like. This not only gives you some variety, but
you can keep flavorings on hand to help deal with additional health
issues.
IMPORTANT: Some herbs should be
avoided in certain conditions. These conditions are clearly
indicated where applicable. If you are pregnant, have certain
health conditions, have certain allergies, or are taking certain
medications, read any restrictions very carefully, and DON'T use the
herb if it's contraindicated for your condition!
